Practicum Training

At Beam, our educational mission is to cultivate the next generation of clinical psychologists and neuropsychologists, training them to develop fundamental clinical, analytical, and writing skill sets so that they will be able to perform comprehensive, high quality neuropsychological assessment with a special focus on pediatric, adolescent, and young adult populations from age 2 to 30.

Dr. Lau is proud that, through her mentorship and training, her trainees have been accepted at renowned internship sites such as Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel (Lifespan Neuropsychology), Veteran Affairs (Adult Neuropsychology), and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles/USC Keck School of Medicine (Child/Adolescent Therapy and Assessment)

We select our trainees from top Bay Area, APA-accredited doctoral psychology programs. Trainees learn to formulate their assessment and therapy cases using a psychodynamic orientation as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and research on brain science and behavior.

We seek trainees who value diagnostic rigor, intellectual curiosity, kindness, empathy, and collaboration, and who already possess excellent writing and reading skills.

Our training program offers didactic training and both one-on-one and group supervision on neuropsychological and neurodevelopment assessment and—at the option of our trainees—psychotherapy with a focus on parent support and group therapy whereby we provide our clients a safe place to share their experiences, feelings, and ideas with their peers.

Practicum training open positions will be communicated to the academic institutions with established relationships with Beam.
